So, this was my first time ever making a turkey, so if I can do this sage roasted turkey recipe, then you can do this recipe. It is actually a very simple and straightforward recipe. You just need three ingredients, tin foil, a roasting pan, and a meat thermometer. This recipe will give you a delicious healthy, gluten free and paleo friendly succulent turkey for your family and friends. – Kara

Serves 13 – 1 pd per person

Ingredients:

  • 1 13 pd whole turkey
  • 1/2 cup of olive oil
  • 1/2 of the packet of Spice Islands Turkey Rub

You will need a roasting pan big enough for your turkey, tin foil, and a meat thermometer.

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

Clean your turkey and take out the giblets.

Next stuff your turkey with your stuffing or my easy delicious Mushroom Cranberry GF Stuffing.

Then tie the drumsticks legs together as shown with the twine so the stuffing stays put.

Then massage spice islands turkey rub into the turkey thoroughly for about 2- 3 minutes.

Then put tin foil on the drumstick ends so they don’t burn.

Lift the turkey up so you can cover the wings tip with tin foil, so they don’t burn as well. Then tuck the wings underneath the turkey so it looks like the wings are propping the turkey up a bit. You can use skewers to help keep the wings in place, I didn’t however, and it turned out fine.

Lastly, cover the turkey with olive oil slowly so as to not get the spice islands rub off the turkey.

Place the thermometer in one of the drumstick legs, be careful not to stick next to the bone as this will alter the temperature.

Pour 1/2 cup of water into the roasting pan.

Place the turkey into the oven for 3 hours at 325. This is the perfect time for a 13 pound turkey.

At 3 hours or when the thermometer reads 160 degrees, take out the turkey, cover it with foil and wait about 30-45 minutes before carving.
