Who is The Accidental Chef?

Hello and welcome to my food blog!

My name is Kara and this is my story.

I grew up with a family that exposed to me to a lot of different types of cuisines at an early age and a mother who is an amazing cook. That being said I didn’t develop my own skills as a “chef” until a couple of years after I started living on my own. There is no amazing story of how I got started, just that I got tired of lean cuisines, dining out and ordering take out. I hated that I couldn’t eat healthy when I went out and that I didn’t even know how to cook at home. Instead of starting slow I just stumbled across a food blog and went for the first recipe that appealed to me. I was hooked. Fast forward to a year later when I realized that I didn’t need instructions all the time and I could throw random things together to create amazingly delicious meals that helped me attain my health goals.  After awhile I began to create recipes that mimicked those meals in restaurants that I loved eating. My goal was to recreate those recipes but without the large amounts of calories, fat, and other detriments to my health. I enjoyed the challenge of creating something healthy but without losing that taste and flavor associated with the meal. I wanted to change people’s opinions on healthy food from “ew” to “this is delicious”. I didn’t want to have to sacrifice flavor or taste just because it was healthy.

I am not a culinary school trained chef but my friends, family, and co-workers seem to love my food which has encouraged me to keep on cooking. In the last couple of years I have taught myself by experimenting and not being afraid to blend different cuisines together. I have come a long way from the cook I use to be and I am proud of what has come from my serious dedication to creating delicious yet healthy dishes. This blog is just my way of sharing my food journey and creations.  Thanks for reading and supporting me thus far!
